Met Steve Morse a few years back...

It was at the last NAMM show they ever had in Chicago. I worked at the building it was hels at the time, so I got a pass.
The Tony Levin thread got me to thinking about this, because Steve, just like Tony, was exceptionally cool, humble, and generally a nice guy, with no discernable 'attitude'. He spent as much time answering questions on a one to one basis as anybody wanted.

I saw Steve's "High Tension Wires" tour when they played the Zephyr Club in SLC, UT in 1990. After the performance my friends and I said our "hellos" to Steve and Dave LaRue( who looked completely spent after playing their asses off)and spent a little time talking with T Lavitz and Van Romaine. They were all very humble, and were very nice to take the time to talk to their fans that night. It was very refreshing to see world class musicians without the "I'm God" attitude. I'd love to see Steve play again, and Dave too!

I saw Steve many times with the Dixie Dregs (later The Dregs). Fantastic guitarist! I met him once after a show in Athens Georgia and I couldn't agree more with a previous poster - Steve was very low-key and nice. I play bass and wanted to chat with Andy West but didn't have the opportunity. But Steve was willing to chat with my guitarist at the time and me about music in general. I was still reeling from their rendition of "Wabash Cannonball" - Morse was on fire and Andy West was tearing it up on his Alembic bass. Amazing stuff.

i met steve on june 28th in szczecin, poland. i'm acually from germany and went there to perform smoke on the water with him and 12 other lucky winners.

I have caught Steve Morse on several occasions when the Dregs or Steve Morse Band came through Pittsburgh.

I also attended a seminar at a local guitar shop that Steve was conducting.. I was only a teenager then, so it would have been in the mid to late 80's. I got his autograph at the seminar and oddly enough, I just dug it out the other day while going through some boxes!

Steve was experimenting a lot with guitar synth in those days, and I remember him playing some really incredible synth sound on his axe using the old Roland guitar synth of those days. I don't think he had his signature guitars from Ernie Ball yet.. or if he did, they were brand new at that time.

I met Steve in November last year in Denmark... he´s really a nice guy and the greatest guitarist ever

I have to add my two cents here. Steve Morse was so laid back. He was very gracious with greeting EVERYONE at his show. Granted, it was a smaller crowd than he and the SMB/Dregs (double billing) show deserved. But still.

He even gave me a pick and I promptly lost it. Dang it. I'm still annoyed thinking about it. I put it in my wallet even!

What I meant was "Really, it makes me sad as well". He's in my top 5 favs and influences...

So, I feel your pain...

ahh I see

yeah he is an awesome player and an inspiration

its sad that its soo hard to see this guy play live across the pond(then up a little until you reach the land of men with painted faces and red hair)

Im fine though Ive met steve vai

and hopefully JP next month
