    The End of Toto

    stevelukather.net - Articles

Wow, I'm stunned. I've been a huge Toto fan almost since the beginning (1979), and Toto has, for almost 30 years, been my #1 or #2 favorite band (trading spots with Yes, depending on my mood), so this is sad news for me.

But I'm not surprised. I can see where Luke is coming from. Life indeed does go on. Ever Changing Times is a fantastic album, one that I've been enjoying very much, and I hope to be able to see Luke on tour.

Lucious, all the best to you! Thanks for many years with Toto. Here's to many more years and a successful solo career.

    Rock on Luke!
It costs a lot of money to almost die.

Just read Luke's "official" announcement, though it was not unexpected given what Luke has said in the past.

It's kind of sad to think there won't be any new Toto albums to look forward to. But, I understand completely. Sometimes you just have to move on. Now we can look forward to more Luke solo albums. (Everchanging Times gets played on a daily basis in my household!)

Lucious, thanks so much for those 30+ years of Toto. Toto has been my #1 fave band since about 1980. It's been an inspiring journey; Toto has been a huge influence on me as a musician, and Toto's music is now influencing a new generation of musos (eg my kids love Toto!). Congrats on keeping Toto going so long, and all the very best with the solo stuff. Looking forward to your Everchanging Times tour later this year!

Thanks to the internet we are closer than ever and this leaves less room for speculations in this case.
Lucious, thanks for the open words and the addition you made was not necessary.
The true fans understood (the ones who buy and don´t copy).

You owe nobody a thing, you gave ús so much music with toto.
    Thanks

    Mick

P.S.: Well on a personal level you owe me a visit to my doctor because in the late 80ies during a soundcheck in munich (German Museum), I stared at you playing and you were joking with Bob Bradshaw (your road tech then) and you slipped on your volume pedal and your then Mesa Power amps killed my stomach and my ears - this was loud!!! Man you guys had fun and so we had during the whole evening. Thanks (will listen to the turn back album tonight - on vinyl!)

Hey I know that guy, isn't he one of the guitarrists in Biff's All Stars?
bovinehost: Yes, I do agree with that, but if there's nothing wrong then there's nothing wrong.
Beth: I would compare Bongo to Tommy Lee Jones. Bad a$$ and just hot in a weird way...
cheezewiz: They should take their lace thongs off and play bass.

    Regarding Luke's "official" announcement.
Wikipedia's "Toto (band)", posted Steve's initial comment from June 6th, but they never followed up with his June 8th apology (to those who did not understand his initial comments).
This bugs me! I hope this oversight can be corrected, because I'd hate to see any bad publicity about someone who seems to be a good person, and the best CD I've heard in many many years.......unless it sells more CDs.
    That is all.
1st EBMM: Silhouette Special, Candy Red, HSS, trem, rosewood.
    2nd EBMM: Luke, Black.
3rd EBMM: Steve Morse Y2D, De-Purple Burst, trem. Most beautiful guitar I have ever seen!
Amps: "Overtone Special" by Ceriatone, Fender; '69 Bandmaster-Reverb, '73 Super-Reverb, Blues Deluxe, Hot Rod Deville 212, '65 Princeton reissue, Blues Jr NOS, Gibson GA-20RVT, Carvin V3M.

I think this might be the most exciting time for Lucious. He is at a point in his career where he gets to make the decisions he thinks are best for his family and his bandmates. Toto's influence and songwriting will always come through in Lucious's music in some way because he was such a huge part of that group. I look forward to picking up the new cd and I am looking forward to Trev's cd too. His stuff is really great. Rock on! We're behind you every step of the way, Luke. Keep it coming!
