    Dan,

My new Sterling just arrived today. What a beauty! I'll post some pics later. Anyway, its serial number is L02293.
This makes me wonder... My Stingray 4 that I had had L03060 as a serial. It was born in December 2000 (16th?). How come my Sterling's -which is newer- serial is lower than my Sterling's serial?

    For Rod's / Gav's database :

L02293 : Lefthanded Sterling, white, maple fingerboard with matching headstock, white pearloid pickguard.

As I have probably mentioned before, our serial numbers are completely random with respect to the order and dates produced .... We stamp neck plates in large quanties (for us), and use them in no particular order whatsoever. Our guys are too worried about the instruments to worry about whether the serial numbers are in any sort of numeric order. In the case of lefties, it is even more so because of the low anount we produce. In your particular case, I can pretty well tell what happened: Because all lefties now start with "L" rather than "E" (usually on SR/SR5's) or "F" (Sterling etc), we stamped a lot of neck plates at once. Since we make more StingRays than Sterlings, it makes sense (in this case) that the numbers by now are higher on StingRays due to the larger number of those basses produced, and the fact that the neck plates are not the same.

Hope that makes some sense .... anyways, your new Sterling was completed on 1/11/07.

    Sorry about that, Bill!

Yes, you are smack dab in the middle of the ballpark ... your bass left the factory to go to Richmond Music Center on 6/22/05.
