    EB strap locks, installing

Hi, folks, I'll make it quick.

Do EB strap locks require you to replace the factory-installed strap buttons before you can use them, or do they incorporate said strap buttons and not a special replacement piece?

    Just curious. Thanks.

They come with replacement buttons that you have to use.

Installation is very simple because the screws for the replacement buttons are the same as those for the standard buttons. No drilling or filling needed.

    Two tips:

    1) Do not lose the special white plastic washers that are under your existing buttons.

    2) Do not overtighten the screws or you'll crack your finish, strip the screw hole or both.

    Hi all, newbie here...

The Ernie Ball site video that bizmarckie linked to says that you need a 7/64 drill bit to extent the hole. Is this because he is installing them on an Axis guitar or is this contradicting what your saying?

Just asking 'cause I just bought a SR5 HH and want to install strap locks.

    Thanks!

I put a set of EB straplocks on my Dargie Bongo and didn't have to make any modifications of any kind.

Im pretty sure that only applies to guitars, i opened my pack of straplocks and from what i remember the screws included were substantially shorter than the original ones. Guys correct me if im wrong but all you have to do is unscrew the old ones, and screw in the new ones.

I didn't have to drill deeper on my Axis Super Sport.

Consensus from those who have done it seems to be no drill (I like no drill!), so then what's up with that video?

Any Ernie Ball/Music Man techs reading this forum that can shed some light?

    Thanks!

Maybe the drill is really for OTHER brands which use smaller screws? I don't have any idea if this is correct, just a wild guess.

This is almost as good as the thread a while back where there were two pages of posts explaining how to open an EBMM hard case.
