EBMM Fretless basses are best in class IMHO.

In addition to making what I consider the best 34 inch scale 5 string on the market for the past 30 years, I also think that EBMM makes a factory fretless bass that is unmatched in it's price range....in addition to being just a phenomenal musical instrument.

The combination of workmanship, quality components and design really separate the EBMM fretless models from any other production line US Made bass to my ear. Because tone and playability are so consistent in EBMM's fretted bass platforms, it transitions mighty well to a fretless where poor workmanship, cheaper woods and design flaws become magnified. The singing quality that you find in booteek basses is always present in EBMM fretless basses but it is coupled with low end clarity that that has made EBMM fretted instruments stand out for decades.

Oh yeah.... and they are very addictive....

I agree, I'm a big fan of the EBMM fretless and I think they are recently gaining in popularity. The last 4 special order basses we have done were all fretless - exciting!

I have aquired a very nice used fretless neck for my 93 Stingray, even from the same production year. It has the nicest figuring ever, a combination of mild flaming, mild birdseye and mild quilt maple. So much character in the wood, and also in its tone.

No chorus or reverb needed, it has a great singing mwah. Now I only need good intonation

That's really exciting that the last 4 basses out of Pete's shop were fretless.

    Here is my fretless:

2017 Morse - BFR - Dark Lord - Tahitian Blue
    2017 StingRay 5 - 30th Anniversary - Buttercream
    2013 Albert Lee - BFR - Pinkburst
2013 Luke III - PDN - emerald green sparkle with an all rosewood neck
    2012 Morse - BFR - Dark Lord
    2012 Axis - PDN - Honeyburst
2011 Axis - BFR - Black Sugar Roasted
2009 Axis - Pink Quilt (Oinky)

Best in class ? I MUST agree .... read my sig ...
but I'm at a loss to define the class. Do we mean
"Leo derived" ? No, cuz the Bongo FL is not in any
way descended from that lineage. Do we mean a
solid bodied electric ? Thaz waaaaaaay too hugely
broad to be considered a class. I just can't really
define the class, but I've got absolutely no doubt
about Best in Class ... whatever that means !

Also, I can say that EBMM FLs appear to be quite
popular, as FLs go. I buy nearly everything used,
and EBMM FLs are rather easy to find compared
to other widely available brands of basses.
    S.U.B. SL4 - SR4p FL [x3] - SR4HH FL [Moses neck]
    SL4p FL [x2] - SL4HS FL - SL4HS FL [Moses neck]

Historically we have always sold a lot more basses than guitars, and a lot more fretted than fretless. These instruments will be a pleasure to see come through!

Mine's on Pete's list. It's taken me a few years to get comfortable with the fretless. Now it just needs to be on a Bongo! Still love my fretless Rays, but I need that Bongo tone.

I've never in my life got a chance to try one,,,,, I have never seen one hanging where I could ask to give it a whirl man I just don't know..

I do know in my brain that a 77 Precision fretless I once heard is really tough to beat,,,, I would love to see (hear) a shoot out between a vintage fretless ray vs a vintage fretless P
