    Surprise New Bass Day-piezostingray4-jpg

Well, this was embarrassing; I had to google the control layout for a Stingray 4 with piezos. It has been a long time, but still, you'd think I might remember that sort of thing.

But you'd be wrong to think that.

Hah, five knobs on a single pickup bass! This is not like me at all.

It sure sounds good, though, and thanks to Armybass for this one. It's a little beat up but it's honest wear and means it was someone's player. I don't mind this at all. It may also be the only tobacco burst I've ever owned. (Don't put money on that - my memory is not that precise now.)

It has weird zingy strings on it but we'll be fixing that soon enough.

    Thanks, Scott!

Once I get those knobs set, I'm going to remove at least two of them and be a happier boy.

MMMMmmmnn 5 knobs, 4 strings, nearly
perfect formula except for about twenty
extra frets ... which are, most fortunately,
    readily removable :-)

That’s a lot of knob. Own it. Get the biggest, most visible, obnoxiously large knobs you can find.

I have one of those too - my only 4 string at the moment... Great sounding bass, punchy as hell. Nice score!

Like this ? These are only 3/4". I was too lazy to
go hunt up my axen with full inch knobs. I never
put big knobs on 5-knob MMs cuz the knobs are
closer together and so it looks too crowded.

[No, it's not an ancient Sabre bass, but it is
a kinda similar close cousin of the Sabre.]

Really nice bass and quite rare. The piezo is a bit of a secret weapon - my Bongo 5HH has one - you will want to keep that knob operational as it introduces, and let's you blend as much or as little as you want. Not sure how types of strings might affect it though.

I once recorded a low register hip hop style line on my Bongo using 100% piezo - and it sounded incredible!!! Not sure how it'll fit your Nashville style stuff but I'm guessing it can add a bit of airiness or even upright timbre to what you play.

    Enjoy!!

Garry and Larry L2K ?! Love the knobs - are they flat topped?

Not domed tops, but the flat silver disc
is surrounded by slightly raised margin
of black plastic. IOW, the disc is inset.

And yes it's an old L2K, an L2000-e to
be exact, aka "lawsuit" model or also a
    "slotpole" model. It's a '82 IIRC. Looks
kinda cleaner than really is, just in that
photo. In person, it's verrrry clearly no
wallflower. No ailments tho. A keeper !

It's my understanding that the opaque
finish bodies of that era are mahogany.
My ears do not argue against that, and
I do love 'hog bod's and have a variety
of them. Yet I can't really say I can pick
out hog tone purely just by listening to
any given instrument with nothing else
    to compare in real time.
