MM PU pole slugs - Ouch ?

Time to time someone complains about
certain MM PU pole slug tips assaulting
    their fingers.

This product seems to be a replacement
cover with a closed [no holes] top. I was
looking for something else and stumbled
into this. I know nothing more than what
the sales site says. But anyone plagued
by vicious PU pole slug tips might want
    to investigate further.

Cost is barely more than pocket lint :-)

Sure, that's one way to do it. If you wanna keep the original look though, you can easily do what I did to all of my Stingrays - shim the pickup cover.

Take the cover off, put tape or cutout carton (or whatever you want) on your coils, thickness to your liking and put the cover back on. Another thing you can do, but that does involve modding the stock pickup some - push the center pole pieces to either remove the stagger, or reduce it.

I did the combination of both - I shimmed the pickup cover and reduced the stagger. This gave me great comfort playing over the pickup and the string-to-string balance is perfect. I used to hit the pole pieces all the time when playing aggressively, and that was a big no no to me. The "fix" is super easy though and I see zero disadvantages.

Stingray Specials have the pole pieces at even height, so that issue is no longer there.

Can’t say I’ve ever had that problem.
Wouldn’t covering the pole pieces in plastic change the overall tone/sound?

It wouldn't affect the magnet pole pieces, no.

I’d of thought it would have some effect. I know there are pickups designed that way so imagine it can’t have too much of an effect but logic says there is a piece of plastic whereas it only used to be air. ?
    I’ll take your word

Well, just think about it. To electricity .... and to
magnetism .... air and plastic are the same thing,
    basically nonexistent, certainly nonconductive.

Just the same as any pick up with a cover I suppose. I was thinking more along the, designed to be covered thought.
Covering pole pieces is just something I’ve never even remotely thought of let alone consider doing so it raised a question
