    Unhappy Disturbing Luke Discovery...

Hey guys. I'm in a bit of a pickle and need some advice. While cleaning up my Luke today, I made a horrifying discovery: a crack in the plate with the serial # where the neck bolts on to the body! I have absolutely no idea how this could have happened. I have taken very good care of my MM since the day I got it 2 years ago. It's never been dropped, banged around or mistreated in any way, and I never let anyone who doesn't know what they're doing play it. So, I have 2 questions for you kind folks:

    1. Could temperature/humidity/climate change have possibly caused this?

    2. What are the chances of purchasing a replacement plate from EBMM?

If anyone can help out I would greatly appreciate it!

    Thanks!

    -Dave

I have known this to happen before to a Forum members guitar neck plate - he lived in a very hot country.

Neck plate screws should not be overtightened.

Contact EB Customer Service who will be able to help I'm sure.

It was only a matter of time brownpants... hahahaha

I'm curious to know if anyone else out there has ever had this happen, and if/how they were able to score another plate.

I'll definitely give them a call, Spud. I've never removed the neck or otherwise messed with the bolts, so who knows how it happened. All I know is that it bums me out. I don't like it when my Balls are in jeopardy! haha

Me too CS were very helpful. I have it on my silo too but it does not affect anything and will cost me to replace as it is not under warranty.

DUDE. That is EXACTLY where mine is cracked. My serial # begins with a "G" as well...wonder if maybe there was simply a bad batch of plates cast...

Yes they do my friend, and all basses with B, stuff happens, laws of physics, certain stesses can cause it.

We all freakout when something happens to a guitar especially something kind of puzzling like this, but it just seems the lower screw was a bit to tight and probably during a change in weather tightened even more to cause the crack. But if something were going to happen to a guitar of mine something like this is fine. All you have to do is just screw in a new plate. Definitely better than something happening to the wood or finish.

I didn't know that. Learn something new everyday...

It seems like I've seen serials that weren't alpha-numeric, though.
