Do the 25th Anniversary Axis guitars have 250k pots?

I just picked one up and the volume pot was scratchy. I took off the back cover to spray some contact cleaner in it and it looks like it's a 250k. The wiring is very tidy and looks original.

Does this look like a 250k to you??Do the 25th Anniversary Axis guitars have 250k pots?-img_3270-jpg

If you have a multimeter handy, you can perhaps solve a little mystery.

The original poster for the 25th (reflex) said 250kΩ pots. But many people have 25th Anniversary guitars with 500kΩ pots. See here...

    Reflex string gauge

Is the poster wrong? Was it correct but EBMM changed spec part way through the production run?

The product codes used used by CTS for their 450 series pots sometimes don't have the nominal value stamped directly on the pot - if this was a 250kΩ pot I'd expect to see 254 code, and if this was a 500kΩ pot I'd expect to see 504 code. And of course this one does neither and is possibly a custom OEM code for EBMM so the back of the pot doesn't clarify much.

Only way to be sure is to turn the volume all the way down and measure the resistance between lugs 1 and 2 (or all the way up and measure between lugs 2 and 3).

Thanks Kev for that information! Whatever the case is, the guitar sounds and plays amazing. By far my favorite EBMM that I've owned. When I get off work I'll grab my meter and check it out.

But if I have a guitar with 250k pots in it I'll always wonder whether or not it'll sound better with 500K pots?: lol

I did some work on my 25th last week and measured the pots. The CTS 450AB2505. It measured 500k.

Thanks! This might be the perfect guitar.
Can I ask how you did it? Did you have to plug holes and redrill? What about neck angle?

It was done by a pro. My 25th was hardtail. So no plugging, only routing. There is a shim for the neck angle.
