[Preemptive Disclaimer/Rant: Trying to use something other than photobucket for image hosting, it has (to put it mildly) become unusable. Even if you pay their exorbitant membership fee you still have to see ads. Trying Amazon Prime Photos and Google Photos but they don't provide permalinks that would work for IMG tags. If anyone has input on what else to use I'd love to hear it.]

Hi again all, sorry for missing the last two installments of The Vault, had to take care of some personal errands that kept me from being able to find something new to show you guys. This week I have a very special all mahogany body Axis Super Sport that Brian Ball uses for his band Eat The Wolf (check them out! Derek Brooks is on lead guitar duties, always putting out great guitar work.)

You can see that this is unlike other ASS guitars right off the bat due to the fact that it does not use a translucent finish, nor a figured maple top. Also, this clearly has different pickups from the regular DiMarzio's. If I had to guess these were probably some in house pickups like we use on the Armadas.

A closer look that the sort of "fire-engine red" paint used on this guitar

This one reminds me of a run guitar center did a couple of years ago. Except, it looks like Brian's has a red painted neck. I always love seeing a sweet Axis.

Thanks for posting these pics, Casey.

Casey- you can use Google photos, but it's a bit of a pain. You have to get a shared link, then find the image URL directly from that.

Casey, are they maybe 20th Silo Pups without the mounting ring?

Very cool, love the use of the solid saddles, my preference too.

I checked out this guitar at the last Eat the Wolf gig in SLO (which I roadied for). It is indeed the same as the special GC run of Hot Rod Red, except that this one has a painted back of the neck, rosewood board, and hardtail (AFAIK the GC run only offered Floyd or ASS vintage trem). Those are standard DiMarzio Axis pickups with chrome tops -- which show up on Axis's from time to time (a number of mine have them) and I think are the same pickups as used in HH ALs.

Here's another knucklehead who had one: NGD: Axis Content.

Thanks for clearing that up, Jeff. I need to get a picture of Derek's Cutlass HSS with the jazz bass position markers, get a whole Eat The Wolf series going on.

Ah, I didn't realize this has a mahogany body -- pretty killer!

That would be killer! I tell you, I never saw so many EBMM at a gig in my life! Opening band: all EBMM. ETW: all EBMM. Even the drummer had an EBMM kit, practically! Was awesome!

Is that a set neck or is that neck finished in the same color as the body?

Normal Axis bolt-on. But the back of the neck is painted the same red as the body.
