Albert Lee MM90 - want to buy - electic bug?? (from Germany)

    hi,

want to buy a MM Albert Lee MM90,(tremolo, no piezo)

    tested it in the shop

sound in the 2. position (neck + middle) like out of phase (quiter, thin, like telephone)

searching the web in dosnt found infos that confirm this (wiring-diagrams, demo-videos)

    is it normal, a bug

the guy in the shop means, the wiring couldnt be changed, because the is only 1 wire plus the ground to any PU (not so in the wiring-diagram)

could an empty battery be the reason?

    any ideas?

    thx for help

No, it can't be a battery issue. The battery only powers the silent circuit (which helps remove some of the single coil hum).

Is this a used or new instrument? If used then the previous owner may have altered the wiring.

If position 4 (neck middle) is OK then there is nothing wrong with the middle pickup wiring and my guess is the bridge pickup is wired out of phase. However, if that was the case, the silent circuit would be adding noise to the bridge pickup. Should be easy to check by looking under the pickguard - the red wires from the pickups go to the switch, the black from the neck and bridge pickups go to the blue wire of the silent circuit, and the black from the middle pickup goes to the violet wire from the silent circuit.

    thank you for quick answer

position neck / middle is the problem

position bridge / middle is ok

they say its a new instrument.
the guy at the shop says there is only one wire/PU + Ground (not a red and a black one) ???

there is noise in all positions, only the "bridge / middle position" is without

have to take a look under the pickguard by myselfe -

These pickups are absolutely fine... It's just me who can't fall in love with them.

Sorry to hear that MJ.... But that's the way it goes sometimes.
Wish I could take that off your hands, but just can't right now.

As for the OP, the switching/tones from the AL MM90 should sound very similar to a strat in all positions.
If it doesn't, then something is amiss....
    Enjoy Your Balls!!!
