I probably shouldn't say anything too specific, but it's what you'd imagine to reproduce the usual Y2D sounds out of only two pickups.

So did anyone answer about the neck profile?

I love my SM-Y2D neck, but I've tried a Dark Lord and it was bit of a tree log for me.

The neck on this one is pretty close to the Dark Lord - maybe just a little thinner, but not by much.

OK, thanks for the info. Since the standard y2d switching is:
    1. [Bridge HB] 2. [Bridge HB & single coil in parallel] 3. [Single coil] 4. [Both HB in parallel] 5. [Neck HB]

I venture to guess that positions 2 and 3 are done as follows:

    2. [Bridge HB in parallel] 3. [Bridge HB split using coil closest to neck]

What are YOU doing here? Perhaps you've finally succumbed to my endless plaudits of oil and wax necks and picked yourself up a Music Man?!

Only have one pic of me with the new Tahitian Blue - which is of me making "New Guitar Face" with it.

Yeah, I've known Mike for years - we gig together - as recently as last weekend in Dallas - and good to see him here so we can subvert his impressionable mind to our cause!

You're right! I made some measurements this morning, and it might even be slightly thicker!

Here's measurements of neck thickness at the 1st, 5th and 12th frets:

2014 PDN African Mahogany Neptune Blue Standard Morse: 0.778, 0.830, 0.891

    2012 PDN 1st Run Dark Lord Y2D: 0.850, 0.877, 0.932

    2017 BFR Tahitian Blue Morse: 0.851, 0.882, 0.936

I measured all of these twice with my digital calipers - and the latest Tahitian Blue is at least as thick as the famed "baseball bat Dark Lord" - or even a couple thousandths thicker...

I will say it doesn't FEEL thicker though - The Dark Lord is more "D" shaped, while the Tahitian Blue is more "C" so is more comfortable (to me).

Another question: we know that the Dark Lord has a thicker neck because it was made for Bonamassa and should feel like an old Les Paul.

But why does the Tahitian Blue and probably the 30th Morse have a thick neck? Does Steve Morse prefer it this way nowadays?

I can't speak as to what Steve prefers, but the Tahitian Blue with a standard headstock that EBMM gave to him at the NAMM Show 2017 also had his regular neck profile - only the reverse headstock models at the show had the thicker Dark Lord neck.

I should have pics of another Tahitian uploaded later today...

Maybe they're just trying it out? At the DP gig, the 30th prototype was the only one with a thicker neck.

Talking completely out of my butt, because I have ZERO inside information on this - the common thread on the thicker neck Morses is the reverse headstock.

So, just *maybe* the CNC programming for reverse headstock also includes thicker neck.

Except that Steve's prototypes have regular headstocks.
