Is my Cutlass a late bloomer?

You may remember back in August when I brought my Cutlass that the roasted neck was quite plain compare to much of the quilty stripey craziness weve seen on other guitars. Well Iv just been looking at some photographs and it seems that my neck has sneakily developed some figuring! Im now hanging the guitar facing the wrong way so that I can see the neck better!

Nothing major. Maybe some pearl tuner buttons, maybe a gold anodized pickguard. But really I’m enjoying it for the guitar it is.

My guess is the oil in your skin is getting into the wood. A change for the better. Think of how nice it'll look if you double down on your practice!

Well yes, that’s exactly what I would have thought but it has equally developed on the headstock too, which is a) rarely touched, and b) varnished!

maybe the maple neck darkened a bit and the grain got more visible?!
The neck on my Morse, although it had nice figuring from the beginning, darkened alot. But that took me 10+years. ...same on the AL - without figuring :-(

Depends on the angle of view on mine. Straight on there is zero figuring but then you move a bit and bamm!, stripes like a tiger.

This is probably due to UV exposure and natural aging of the neck. The roasted necks are just oiled wood, so they will age with exposure to light, as well as the natural oils in your hand. Yours is getting better and better! We're glad to hear you're enjoying your Cutlass RS!
