    Heavy Gauge Strings on Majesty

This may sound like a dumb question, what are the heaviest gauge strings you can put on a Majesty? I am in a cover band at the moment and they are wanting to tune down to D standard. I am thinking I am going to have to go to 13 gauge strings because at the moment I play 10's in standard tuning. Thanks.

13 gauge is extreme!! D standard requires 11 gauge if you want a similar feeling to that of the 10 gauge in E standard. It's really up to you in the end.

I guess I should have been more specific. You don't have to modify the compensated nut on the Majesty to accommodate the heavier gauge strings?

I wouldn't know as far as 13 gauge is concerned. For 11 gauge no mod is needed.

11-48 standard slinky set is what we use for D Standard. Should be minimal adjustment of the spring tension to keep the bridge level.

Considering John plays with tunings down to C on a standard Majesty, I think you'll be fine (and I wouldn't use 13s for that tuning either). If not the new Burly Slinky set, then the 'not even slinky' set would be just fine.

Thanks for the info everyone I appreciate it. I just didn't want to ruin the nut.

You may need to file the nut were you to use 12 or 13 gauge. I know for sure you don't need to for 11 gauge.

Did you have to do anything to the nut to handle the beefy slinkys? I was considering trying them on my JP6 for C standard.
