The neck is what absolutely kills me with the JP, though. Why? There's probably a nice birdseye neck under that gunk.

lol - after 28 years playing and buying guitars, it never ceases to amaze me when people wake up in the morning and say "Hey, there's a premium instrument that equates to a months salary, I think I'll take a belt sander to it....." - it used to be that these instruments appeared for sale cheap as people recognised they'd destroyed them and they made good projects, but sadly now people are asking retail for them... madness, madness I tell you!!!!

You all know that you could get a new pick guard and salvage that Axis right? Be it clear or another color... if it was the right shape it could still be a killer guitar.

For the Axis, the pickguard doesnít look too bad but like Beej said - why use screws? The JP is another story. Iíd love to take on that project but the seller admits the top was sanded so much that it broke through to the control cavity. Iím still tempted...

For a little less money, I'd be tempted on the JP, but I've seen them go for $800 in much better shape.

Oh man! What a mess! For me, the beauty of the axis /SS is its simplicity and no-nonsense look. It is pure mojo.

For me, any "upgrades" should not be visible.

I'll agree that maybe a clear guard could work..... but having screw holes in the top is too much for me

...just seen the JP!! OH DEAR!

As mentioned above, it also never ceases to amaze me the "inspirational moments" people have with premium instruments.

"I know what ... I'll take this gorgeous guitar and make it look rubbish" ... genius! Haha
