Am I crazy for considering taking this on?

Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci 6 JP6 2002 Custom Black | Reverb

The neck is what scares me...anybody know what a new neck would cost?

Also hoping there is enough in the pictures for the resident experts here can tell me if this is an authentic EBMM.

It seems like there is knob missing. Looks like it has piezo saddles but no knob for the piezo

The bridge also doesn’t seem quite right - the bridge may have been redesigned at some point though, but if you look at at the jP 6 on the EBMM site, you’ll see what I mean

Looks like it’s missing a switch too.

Any JP experts who know the history of the 6 able to chime in?

It's real. It has came up before. Terrible paint job. You can grab and take it straight to a good luthier for a new paint job.

The bridge is correct. I think it otherwise looks legit, if horribly treated. The contoruing looks really poor, so either it was sanded away or there is a ton of crappy paint on it (or both).

And I think a new neck will cost you more than the current asking price.

I would walk away from this.

I would just strip and sand it. Gun oil it and have a great beater guitar!

Think I’m gonna save up for something else...
I haven’t seen many St Vincent’s on the used market...how do the necks compare to an Axis or a Luke III?

There was one at the GC in raleigh with the solid rosewood neck. Didn't feel too different to me. Wife did not like the body shape and she keeps the money..... Lol

id try to get it at $400. Even then I don’t know if it’s much value unless you can DIY a proper refinish. I’d probably have MJT do it relic style & make it my own.

I was watching it with a price in mind of when I was going to pull the trigger. Sand the model paint off the neck and re-oil and wax it, then have a pro do a new paint job and repair where it was sanded it too thin. Didn't get there. He started out wanting $800 for it.

I snagged it on the cheap! It should be here Monday. I'll strip it back down, fix the issues with the body, and then refinish it correctly in a color yet to be determined.
