I love Axis guitars. What are some of the rarest and/or unique versions of the Axis? One-offs, colors, etc.....
I was lucky to pickup an Axis non-ASS hard tail. I haven’t seen any for sale before or since that one.

They're a great guitar!
There have been a number of cool colours and one-offs over the years. Now they're pretty much called BFRs.
If I can find my EBMM folder, I will share some rarities from my archives. Just please be patient, I'm crazy busy at work at the moment. lol
Glenn. Give this boy some pics. Haha.

I guess one place to start on the rare ones would be the 2011 Axis Tributes with the brown backs that were released to commemorate the 20yh anniversary of that guitar. Seems like there were only 130 made in all 11 colors.
Les, Hahahahahahaha, this is really up Jeff's alley, he's the lover of the Axis. Hard tail Axis are rare your right about that. As far as colors and one offs, hmmm, I'll have to think/search.
So there are the BFR runs. Ball Family Reserve | Ernie Ball Music Man

The Tributes, seem rarer these days.
Introducing the Limited Edition Axis Tribute! Live at the Carolina Guitar Show!
I always feel the HSS and SSS Axis Sports to rare and sometimes a super deal.
Looks like Jeff's page is still flash based, it doesn't seem to want to let me view anything, he's got tons of them.
I'll post more when I come across them.
P.S. It doesn't exist without pictures!!!!!!

Yep, my stupid Guitar Gallery has reached the end of its life. I thought you'd still be able to view the Flash if you checked some box to "Allow" Flash to run on my site. No such luck. So I need to rebuild it. Sigh. I have zero time for that... And I can't even run the old site so I can reference it when I build the new. Ugh.
OK. The Axis. A fabulous guitar. I have 79 of them in one config or another, not counting EVHs that are, of course, where the model came from.
Hah... I just went to post them all and the Ernie Ball Forums said, "You have included a total of 78 images in your message. The maximum number that you may include is 40. Please correct the problem and then continue again." So I guess I have to do two posts...

Jeff, what's the story with this one, I've never seen an Axis Sport with a black head stock?

Wow... that's a stunning collection. And I thought I liked the Axis. I remember first seeing one at a Guitar Center back in the 90's, when it was the EVH. Something like $1400 or so, way beyond the reach of a college kid, who was buying a $300 acoustic-electric. But even then, it was stunning, with a unique shape and the 4+2 headstock.
I've always thought the Axis looks like the love child of a Strat and a Les Paul.
Wow! Thanks guys. I've seen quite a few of the BFR's but some of those PDN's are amazing. There are many more colors and finishes that I have never seen. I love the Translucent Sunburst Quilt or what I thought was Lava burst. I need to troll Reverb and eBay for some of these.
HOLY CRAP. Now I know why I can't ever find the rarer colors for sale online. That is one impressive collection.

I dunno. No story AFAIK. I got it that way. I don't *think* the body is a re-spray or something.
Thanks man. Honestly, since I don't have them all out hanging (they are in storage now as I finish my new studio build) I forget just how many until I do something like this...
