I use sxtra slinkys 8's, but I take out the 8 and the 38 and put on a 9 and 40, so I don't know ezactly what you would call them, LOL. I like the 40 for a little more bass and the 9 for solo work, and the others are really good for rhythm. As you might guess I am more into playability than tone. I find I can always fix the tone with the amp.

Same with my acoutic/electric strings. I use slinky extra phosopher bronze, but I throw out everything but the 10 and 20. I put in a 13, 22, 32 and 42. Once again it's all about playability. I admit my nex body Takamine leaves a lot to be desired when played strictly acoustically beause of this, but plug it into an amp and it is good to go.

Feel free to tell me what an idiot I am, LOL.

I have just become a big, big believer in playabiity over anything else. It is kind of like baseball. You can have the best curve ball in the world but if you can't throw it over the plate for strikes, what good is it? You have to be able to play the thing first, before you can do anything else.

Used 9's for years on electric.I switched to hybrid 9-46 on my strat, and have since switched to 10-46 on my ballstuned 1/2 step down. They feel almost identical to 9's at standard tuning.I like custom light11's on acoustics.

    12s

I' telling you, 12s are the way to go. They honestly aren't terribly hard to bend, and sound just amazing for classic rock played on a Tele.

    11s and 10s

10s or 11s are great more power! Want to bring any guitar to life? Just put some 10 gauge on it and get the kneck adjusted just right.....You'll be on your way to great jazz and metal!!!!

For standard tuning 10's are best for the material I play however drop tuning is a whole different story

I use a .095-.46 set, easy to play and bend, but still possessing a lot of great tone.

I use the 12-56 Not Even Slinky set...but I swap that dead-sounding plain 24 gauge string for a wound 24. Sounds amazing, and my guitars have never enjoyed better tuning stability! I use 'em in tunings from as low as drop-B to as high as D standard, and they are absolutely awesome. Too heavy for most players to use in D tuning, but I'm primarily a bass player, so my hands can handle the extra work it takes to bend them. My main gauge for Eb and E standard tunings is the 11-54 Beefy Slinky set.
