Roundwound Guitar and Bass strings are made up of a Hex core steel center and a steel wrap around it. Nickle Plated strings are most common.
They have a Nickle plated steel wrap around the Hex core. The Stainless steel wrap is a brighter sounding metal and produces a brighter overall sound.

    Thanks

Nickel strings are warmer sounding to me, less clank/bright/twang, more fat/hum/buzz/warmth to my ears. Can you tell I like nickels?
    Funky like dumpsta-divin' style funky. . .
