    HI,

I think I found an answer:

"Roundwound Guitar and Bass strings are made up of a Hex core steel center and a steel wrap around it. Nickle Plated strings are most common.
They have a Nickle plated steel wrap around the Hex core. The Stainless steel wrap is a brighter sounding metal and produces a brighter overall sound.

    Thanks

Derek" So I'm assuming that the unwound strings in a nickel set or SS are the same>
