Beware of Contaminated Asian Guitar Strings

    Hi All,

I just read this very interesting article on ProfessorString.com and wanted to share it with fellow EB players:
Poisonous Chromium Contamination Recently Found on Imported Guitar Strings

It seems like there is another good reason to buy Balls......MADE IN USA!
The crap China has been sending out lately is frick'n scary. Bad toys, pet food, and toothpaste.

QUESTION: If you bought an Asian made guitar, would you play the factory strings on it, or change them to something else immediately?

    Cheers!

    Sounds like scaremongering to me.

The title of this article is “Poisonous Chromium Contamination Recently Found on Imported Guitar Strings.” You are probably wondering whose strings? The answer: Nobody’s strings…but this headline could appear at any moment given the conditions in China.

As a matter of interest, which manufacturer's strings are made in China? I only ask because I remember reading an interview with a guy from Rotosound who said it was actually cheaper to make them in the UK than outsource production to China.

I don't know about chromium contaminated strings. I guess I should stop taking the chromium supplements I get at the Vitamin Shoppe. Just kidding I don't take vitamins, unless I'm really hung over, and then it's just a zinc and vitamin B. The real threat that doesn't get enough attention is dihydrogen monoxide.

Dihydrogen Monoxide, or DHMO, is a colorless and odorless chemical that kills or maims thousands each year, primarily through accidental inhalation. It has also been revealed to be a causative agent in many environmental exposure incidents, industrial contaminations, automobile accidents, and property damage. The dollar amount losses caused, and the lives impacted, by the DHMO threat are virtually innumerable.

Accidental inhalation, eh? Anyone dumb enough to put themselves in a position to where they have to breathe Dihydrogen Monoxide is asking for certain death. I don't believe there is a person who has every lived after breathing the stuff...

So making products in the UK is cheaper than making them in Asia? There are plenty of folks in the business world who would challenge that thought. I can't remember the last time I bought something at Wal-Mart and it said Made in UK. I'm sure it probably exists, but it's gotta be in the very small minority of their SKUs. It sounds like the guy from Rotosound is trying to justify his job.

    Good point Chewie.
It could be an interesting news day if they start making Viagra in China and it gets recalled. One could only imagine what could go wrong in that scenario!

    Cheers!

They already do, all those spam e-mails mentioning Viagra are probably peddling the fakes from China. Know what those little blue pills posing as Viagra are made of? Cement. Sorry, but eating cement isn't going to give you the results you're thinking of!

There's a great Penn & Teller video on YouTube regarding this little understood substance!
