I've been using EB strings for years, but after breaking D or A strings semi-regularly lately, I decided to try a set of D'Addar.......er...uh.....<ahem> another brand. Well, they were horrible. I find it difficult to understand how this set of strings sounded, tuned, and felt so bad. 2 of my friends said they had similar experiences with....<ahem>...that brand.

Last night I changed back to my usual EB 10's and wow, what a difference. It was noticeable immediately. They tuned up, felt great, and sounded great....minutes after putting them on.

I may not be a fanboy of EBMM guitars since I don't have one (yet), but I'm a loyal fan of the strings. Just thought I'd share that.

Yo Jo. Y'know, I never break unwound strings, it's always the wound ones, usually the "D". The core breaks, right at the point where it passes over the saddle. And the funny thing is it doesn't usually happen when I hit it hard. Fortunately Musician's Friend sells 3 packs of single gauge strings, I've got a pack of A's and a pack of D's.

It hasn't happened for a while, but maybe I'll try a "heavy bottom" set for grins.

I'm curious, what are the diameters of the cores of the wound strings?

Honestly, I hardly ever break strings, nor do my guitar(s) ever go out of tune. And, I play HARD - dive bombs, pull offs, bends (wrap the light E over the low E).
Complete anarchy!!

But what I do is: continually and meticulously "tweak" lower hardware,

1. Trem plate/saddles are ALWAYS perfectly level (horizontally) strings go out straight and rest fully supported the entire "length" of the saddle cradle.

2. Trem plate ALWAYS returns and rests on the body "entirely" at the same time, no unusual tension on any one string.

3. Individual saddles have string grooves polished, no snagging etc. ..

4. Titanium string blocks, eleminates worn grooves, dents, or shattering/chipping of block.

I think if you take certain precautions your Slinky strings should not pre-maturely break EVER!

No trem on mine, it's a G*bs*n LP. Stop tail piece, and fixed bridge w/adjustable saddles.

As I mentioned above, the strange thing is that it doesn't actually happen when I hit it hard.

I'd really like to know those core diameters.

like tnt i hardly ever break strings. i have a soft touch and have used ernie ball extra slinkys ( 8-38 ) for years. i did stray once i tried DR's cuz i liked the black coating and they sounded good for a day then crapped out. i used up the supply i bought and then went IMMEDIATELY back to extra slinkys and WOW i was amazed at how awesome i forgotten how good they felt and sounded after only a couple of weeks the ibanez(jezabel) is returned to her former glory. and my LP has been christened with the righteousness now although that gibby tune-o-matic had me in fits fitting those little suckers the first go round the A popped at the brigde and the little e waited i was ambushed i had tuned and stretched it nad streched it again and i'll be darned if that sucker didn't slide right off the peg. scared the crap out of me doing it to. so finally it was set and it never played so good. i will never stray again

adwex if you really are breaking those strings and IF you have a gibson try strings thru the stop tailpiece from the end facing the pickups and wrapping back over the piece to the saddles it will take stress off thestring at the saddle and minimize the number of strings you break. i just watched and interview with Zakk wylde and thats exactly the problem he was having and how he fixed it and has been doing it for yrs now...
