Not to stir up the wrath of forum admins... but

As far as the Worst Strings Ever thread went, those Zakk Wylde (sp?) Boomers are .010 - .060. I have a set on a Les Paul. When you go with that extreme a set of strings, I think any "standard" set of strings is going to feel funny and sound weak in comparison.

I've had good luck with EB Strings personally. My only gripe is that none of the music stores where I live in central NH (admittedly BFE) carry RPS strings. Every friggin flavor of EB Strings you can imagine, except never any RPS

I was told that you can reinforce non-RPS strings by soldering the ends, I've tried this, and haven't noticed any detrimental side effects, although I have not done any studies to see if it has any positive effect either. My biggest problem is that The EBMMSMSM uses 10 - 42 ..... How 'bout a Steve Morse string set guys? Special ordering strings is a PITA!

Will this guy never shut up? I just thought of something else. When I bought my Steve Morse, the gauges were given to me as 10 13 16 22 32 42. The Music Man Guitar FAQ says it's a .009. I got my info from an Ernie Ball employee in response to an email I sent asking about the strings about 2 - 3 years ago. Anyone know what gives? Did Steve Morse change his mind on the gauges he uses?

    Cheers,

    /tones

According to an interview from Steve's site, his choice of string gauge is 10, 13, 16, 26, 32, 42.
Fully Loaded Mystic Dream John Petrucci 6 String.
