EB Reg. Slinky 5 E String

Hi,

I put a EB Reg. Slinky 5 set on my bass and noticed the E string's wrappings didn't make it past the nut when tuned to pitch. Specifically, the string's last wrap was about 1/16" in front of the nut. In addition, the B string's last wrapping was halfway inbetween the nut. I have a 34" scale bass with a string-thru body and cut all the strings 3" past the tuning posts.

So I removed the E and B strings, cut about 1/2" off each, and re-stringed them onto my bass. However, the wrappings still don't make it past the nut; I doubt their positions changed at all. It probably was a futile attempt to begin with, as the tension would still be the same for the strings, but I figured it was worth a shot.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I don't mind enough to do anymore about it, as my playing hasn't been affected, but some insight would be welcome anyway.

On a side note, whenever I slap the E string open, it would sound as if I have a chorus effect on. I guess that's due to the wrapping not making it completely past the nut. It's a very groovy sound! The B string, however, doesn't do this.

Edit: I previously said the problem isn't serious enough to warrant me to do anything more about it, but after a bit more playing on the bass, I found the "chorus" sound the open E string makes is the E string wavering in and out of tune quickly. Now I'm a bit more concerned! Aside from buying a spare E string, any suggestions?

It's probably due to the nut slot being too wide for the incompletely wrapped string.

If it's affecting your playing, the only option is to buy another set of strings, different brand.
