ridiculous string question! should i buy a new set or a new string?

i bought a new D string cause my old flatwound set's d string finally broke after a year and a half. i was wondering should i buy a whole new set or will the new d eventually catch up with the finely aged set on there in sound?

these are for the bass by the way!

thanks! i decided to go with buying a new set so they all age at the same time instead of having one brighter one and a bunch of finely aged(dirty and old lol) strings.
