Brand new M-Steel pitting throughout B and high E

Just opened a new set of M-Steel 10-52 strings to find that the B and high E strings have blackened marks with pitting along the lengths of them. In my 35 years of buying strings I have never see anything as bad as this. I've had strings on instruments for months and more without this happening to them.
Extremely disappointed.Brand new M-Steel pitting throughout B and high E-jpgBrand new M-Steel pitting throughout B and high E-b2-jpg

How it happens is something I'm interested in knowing.
