    bass guitar book recommendations

    Hello,
I just bought a musicman stingray sr4 and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for books to learn scales, chords, theory, etc for the bass?
    Thanks,

There's lots of good stuff out there, go to www.edfriedland.com, and look in there. He's got something for whatever level you are at.
Also look at www.normstockton.com, he's got a set of DVD's that are pretty good.
    Hope that helps.

Mel Bay's "Complete Book of Bass Technique" by Bunny Brunel is a great book for learning scales and modes. It consists of scale fragment and broken interval studies. I recommend it highly.

I liked "Jazz Bass" by Ed Friedland

Rather than teaching scales through patterns (which can easily be found on the web), the book teaches how to build a bass line (aiming for walking bass lines). Start with the root. Add the fifth here and there. Experiment with some chromatic notes to lead in. Some scale lines.
