I've read some quotes were he said he was looking for that trebly out front sound. He definitely thought the bass was more of an out-front melodic instrument and not just a rhythm instrument. IMHO from what I read.....
Bonzo aka sflajimmy
Sterling Trans-Orange
95' Sterling Honey Burst
Eden WT 550
Acme Low B 210
And he pretty much invented rock lead bass.

He was just an incredible bass player.
Being a guitar player, I haven't previously kept up with what's what in bass gear, is he associated with any particular amps in your minds, Entwistle fans?
I seem to have read somewhere that he used Marshalls.
JP6 Pearl Redburst; 20th Anniversary Silhouette; Silhouette Special Las Vegas Gold; 2007 LE Bongo 4H; BFR JP6 Trans Ruby; AL MM90 Pacific Blue Burst; 2006 LE AL; 25th Anniversary Guitar Quilt, Maple Fretboard, Hardtail; 25th Anniversary Guitar Quilt, Rosewood Fretboard, Tremolo; DD2 BFR JP6; DD2 BFR GR; AL HH Black; Luke with Piezo, Black Sugar Roasted Maple
I think before he died, he was using Ashdown.

In the beginning he and Pete Townshend bought the first 4 100 watt amps produced by Marshall. Pete went over to Hiwatt and JE may also have used Hiwatt at some stage.
He also used Sunn Colisseum and the Ashdown PM series amps.
At the end of his life he used Digitech pre amps and Trace Elliot power amps.

Yeah. He's really tough to pin down, I guess. I guess that's what generated my question.

Let's not forget the songwriting. My Wife is one of my favorite Who songs.
He was a monster bass player. There's not too many bass players that could have kept up with Keith Moon.
It's too bad he missed the Don't Do Coke When You're Old memo.
