    Bass Players and Glove

What's with some bass players and a glove (usually no finger tip and a tight fit leather) on their plucking hand. I've now seen this on Louis Johnson and Rhonda Smith in videos. Someone care explaining this to me? And it's only on the plucking hand (right), not the fretting hand (left).

I know nothing about bass, so don't take my advice too seriously. Maybe it is something to do with where and how they rest their hand on the guitar? Maybe to keep their sweaty and salty hands off of the guitar? I guess it could be a number of things...
