    $25,000 for a replica!!

OK, I'm not going to call out any names , but I just saw one of the worst replicas I've ever seen in my life and it's $25,000!

I appreciate the fact that people want to play what "so and so" played back in the day. But I guess I don't get it when the only differences are the mods these players made to a stock instrument. I mean, isn't that something you could do for yourself?

About prices and guitars: Vintage Les Pauls

I read on a "forum" once where a guy said; he felt that he was lucky that he's never played a real 58-60 Les Paul. Because if he got the chance to play one, he knew that his life would never be complete without owning one. It would be that good. It would be so tragic for him, knowing that he never will be able to afford one.

So I imagine if someone comes to him and says: "Hey, you wanna try this sweet '59 Les Paul?", he has to answer: "No, thank you."or "I wish I could, but I can't." or something.....Hehehe, that is funny to me.

I read a funny comment on the replica Blackie's, It may have been here on the forum and if it was I don't claim it as my own.

But the point was that these Blackie replicas are accurate right down to every last ding, dent, and scratch right ?
Well fair enough but what then happens if Eric puts an new mark onto the original ?
Do all of the replica's get recalled to have the damage added ?
If it were me and I'd spent that much on it I'd expect the concierge service at Fender to be calling me up to arrange having someone come round at my convenience to have the scratch added.....

Surely the logical conclusion for this is for Fender to try and charge us in excess of 100k for a red/white Strat that has been 'authentically' smashed up in exactly the same way as Jimi's one was at the end of Monterey ?

On the one hand you've got to admire the sheer front of it all surely ?

Well Dr Bob good point, but with the case of Erics Blackie that will never happen, it was auctioned off a few years back and now belongs to the Guitar Center, and they keep it in a private vault locked away except to show off at guitar shows etc, I have seen it twice since GC bought it, stays in a galss case mostly, saw it at the Dallas Guitar Festival and at a GC store.

Do the people that bought these replica's play them ?

Even aside from the supposed 'investment value' of them the flipside of my previous rant is that surely, perverse as it might appear much as these guitars have been extensively and accurately 'distressed' if you were to add any extra markings to one it's value would diminish?

It must be all about the right kind of paint chip...............

I don't know which emotion is the more powerful.

The begrudging admiration for the guy in the marketing department who convinced the board that they could get away with such obvious snake oil insanity.

Or the despair I feel at living in a world where the entire production run was probably sold out within days of it being announced.

Ultimately it doesn't matter to me, I've got two EBMM's !

    Hurrah

I dont get buying a new guitar scratched up but keep in mind that a signifigant portion of the revenue went to charity.

    secondly...it is supply and demand.

    As ever BP, fair comment.

I didn't know that an amount of the cash generated from the sale of these pieces went to Charity, I'm guessing Claptons' Crossroads foundation ?

So In light of that I'll wind my neck in a bit.

I hope the money does some good.

Since we have been going on about the Blackie, I do think the original post refered to the new EVH model

maybe Eric needs to play an AL.

the EVH relic is just stupid IMO. but hey, those who have that kinda dough can do what they want with it.
My name is Rob and I'm an AL-coholic!
