    New Silhouette special..buzz noise

Well, I just bought this HSS Silhouette special from musiciansfriend. Now what i read was EB makes great guitars, and right from the factory they need no mods. But what I find here is 4 of the strings buzz! I switched to 10's (from the 9's that came on it) hoping it would cure it. It hasn't. Now I paid $1400 for this guitar, should I return it? I'm hoping not to because I like the tones in the guitar but the buzz is driving me batty.

It may need the action adjusted. It largely depends on where the buzz is coming from.

Take it to a guitar tech and have them do a setup on it. The truss rod may need an adjustment.
Currently modding the heck out of a SBMM SILO30

Hi Timisme. That name sounds awfully familiar. Anyways don't forget the first rule of new guitars. Share pics! Also contact customer service for any issues you may have. They have a reputation for providing great service.

That being said read through the FAQ as setting up and maintaining your new EBMM is very easy, but sometimes requires a professional.

Q: What is the best way to adjust the action on my Music Man guitar?
A: The best and easiest way to adjust your action is to use the truss rod. To lower your action, turn the wheel clockwise. To raise your action, particularly if you have fret buzz, turn the wheel counter clockwise. It is always a good idea to make just one or two turns at a time, then play it and see if it needs more adjustment. It normally doesn't take many turns of the wheel to notice a difference.

A "turn" as defined here is inserting an adjustment tool and moving a spoke of the wheel from one side of the opening at the body at the neck to the other side.
The adjustment wheel is just one of the many reasons why I love these guitars so much.

    String Buzz

Thanks for the replies. So I turned the wheel counterclockwise as suggested. I have turned it a couple times ( through about 3 holes) to the point where there is no buzz. But it seems now the action is so high. ( the high E is about 3 mm above the fret! At this point it is not easily playable. No Buzz, but no action. Looking down the neck, it is perfectly straight so I really don't know what to do. I've heard I can adjust the saddles down now. But this may throw the intonation out of whack and I'm not really a guitar tech. I guess I will now contact tech support.
