    The Rolling Stones

What took me so long? I actually always thought I couldn't stand them, found them overrated, etc. but since listening to a good chunk of their songs that are never on the radio, I think they're great! Part of the reason I started into them was probably in how Martin Scorsese uses their music in his movies, and the way he creates an atmosphere with the songs.

Anyone else ever realize you like a band you thought you hated?

The "problem" with a band like the Stones is that they've been around so long, to many younger listeners they've always been a dinosaur. Everybody hears the same few songs on rock radio (Satisfaction, Jumpin Jack Flash, Honky Tonk Women, Start Me Up, etc) and they never bother to look beyond those. If you pick up Sticky Fingers, or Let it Bleed, or Beggar's Banquet, you realize that they've written and performed an amazing amount of classic material over the years, including a lot of stuff you'll never hear on the radio.

I have a download subscription to eMusic, which is virtually all indie labels but recently obtained rights to offer the Stones ABKCO catalog (everything they released between 1964 and 1970). I've been loading up on their early R&B stuff, which is awesome.

For years and years I hated REM. I still hate "Stand". Lately they have playing alot of their stuff on the radio since they have a new album, and I am starting to realize that maybe they aren't that bad after all.

Perhaps getting older has more to do with it.

By the way, yes the Stones are great. Personally I like their acoustic numbers better than their rockers.

The Stones rule, truly. I just saw Shine A Light and loved it. You gotta be a stones fan, but if you are, you won't be disappointed.

The way Keith and Ron work off of each other is unmatched. It's like they finished each other's sentences.

Keith said it best, "We're both pretty lousy by ourselves, but together we're better than 10 other guys." Keith is just such a trip to watch anyway.

Being a Scorsese fanboy, I'll probably love it
