I was astonished!!

Last night I went out with a "Sound Engineer" friend of mine to watch a covers band.

Got talking to the guitarist at the interval asking him what he was going through.

All he was using was a Pod 2 an FBV board going into a Mackie powered PA system.
He had a foldback so he could hear himself.

Tell ya what - his sound was awesome.
My mate's flabber was truly ghasted!!

Not to start a whole modeling debate but I really like Line 6's philosophy of modeling vintage and analog gear. They really seek out the coolest and best sounding stuff to model. Even though they have had their blunders they make some very useful and fantastic sounding stuff. They are falling behind a bit to some competition, but I'm going on 5 years with my Pod products and can pretty much get close to any sound I'd ever need.

One thing I've noticed is that the quality of the guitar is such a huge factor. After switching/upgrading to EBMM's from mid priced stuff all of my sounds have really taken off. Even with the Pod, the Luke just sounds like such a proffesional instrument.

I agree, you can get some decent (non-tube) tone from Line 6, the way he set it up!!! I really like Line 6 (but only for what they are).

However, let me say this, there is absolutely NO WAY he could use a Line 6 combo amp or head, shoot it out a speaker cab, at gig volume ( it would be a complete ruin!!) Totally different outcome!!

But, if he mic'ed it (at low amp volume) thru the PA, he could get by with it, or as you mentioned in your thread, that set-up.

Lack of "power tubes" is the downfall, not the lack of pre-amp tubes!!

I use a Line6 Pod for recording guitars, very impressed with the quality of the amp modelling.
I only need a little practice amp for (6 string) guitar for my flat, so bought a little Line 6 Spider 15W practice amp, great range of amp options and parameters for the price.

Much less impressed when I tried a Line 6 guitar out last year!

I think that the sound he achieved that night spoke volumes (scuse the pun!) for the Pod 2 he was using - and as I say- straight into the PA with just a foldback.
They played all kinds of stuff too!

Line 6 guitars were another thing - good idea but the innovation fell on deaf ears (another pun?) and hasn't really sold well.

My sound engineer buddy was so impressed - he's going out to get a pod.

I'd agree 100% with that.

I love my Pod with amp/speaker emulation switched off going through the front end of either of my valve amps.

Yeah Jim - I remember XTC started using them in their studio recordings just after they came out.

If people want a cheap back up or pretty decent effects - get a second hand Pod 2 - they are so cheap. Great as practice amps too using the headphone out.

You can hear them all over alot of recordings. I know Jeff Beck used them quite a bit. I'm getting to where I can pick it out of a mix. They really are a great tool as well as other modellers. The key is to using the tools available and knowing their advantages/disadvantages. I say great for home and studio use, not so sure I'd ever use one live unless I was in a cover band or something. How many people need 78 amp models for live use?

I've got a POD XT. It's perfect for what i wanted-essentially a headphone amp that i could also record with. I'm by no means a guitar play-my bread and butter is bass [electric & upright].

Gets a variety of nice sounds, easy to use, and used on ebay-it was pretty cheap too.

What about the POD X3? Sounds interesting from what I've read, with the two-amps thing... Has anyone tried it?
