    Stairway To Heaven solo

    From This Day in Music.com

2006, readers of Total Guitar magazine voted the guitar solo by Jimmy Page in Led Zeppelin’s 'Stairway To Heaven' as the greatest guitar solo of all time. The 1971 track was voted ahead of tracks by Van Halen, Queen, Guns N' Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica and The Eagles by its UK readers.

Any of those major magazines are usually horrendous. Let me guess; Jimi Hendrix is the best guitarist of all time and Kurt Cobain is in the top 20 for some horrendous reason.

Seen it before; never makes it seem correct.

Actually, I don't really have any problem with their naming that solo as best of all-time.

However, I do think the idea of ranking solos or songs or whatever is really ludicrous.

But if someone insists on doing it, that solo is as good as anything else I'd consider.

Often derided but I have no problem in listening to and enjoying that solo.

It's a classic and deserves it's appearance in various polls.

I agree, ranking solo's or anything like that, bands, songs etc. is an exercise in futility.
However it is an awesome solo, a classic and I enjoy listening to it anytime so I can't complain about it's #1 ranking.

There are too many lists...rankings of the best of this and that...it's all subjective and usually way off the mark.

By the way...Comfortably Numb is the greatest solo of all time and everyone knows it.
