Do you think smartphones can help out bands?

    Hi all.

    Name is Robin.

With a friend we thought of this idea we found pretty cool so we deceided to try to develop it as a free service for bands.

The initial idea is to allow bands to share their lyrics and bios and other content before, during and after a gig with fans through iPhones and Blackberrys. We call it Fanteraction.

    Here's the site: http://gigdoggy.com
and here's the "About Fanteraction" blog post: Our mobile Fanteraction? platform is now in Beta The way bands do it

If you have iPhones or Blackberrys on you, you can see how the profiles look on your phones now.
Here's an example: http://gigdog.gy/paisible (just enter the URL in your phone's browser)

We also want to add some interaction features, and basically have lots of different ideas on how to help bands and fans interact during a gig with mobile phones.

We are also thinking of using our platform to create little mobile myspace-like band profiles.

I would love some constructive feedback.

    Thanks guys.

    Rob

Overall I think it's a pretty good idea. What i'm thinking is that: during a show, people usually want to watch the band, not surfing the net with their phones. Also, not everyone has internet access on their phones.

Something you could do though is make a place where bands could create their own profiles for their bands etc. and at the end of a show or during, unstead of telling everyone to go on the internet with their phones and look at the bands profile(s)/lyrics, you could tell them to take a look after when they are all at home and have computers.

Once you get a good foundation of people to look at these sites/profiles the word may or may not spread depending on one's interest level. It could turn out to be somthing pretty cool if it's done in the right way.

    thanks for the comment.

Well the thing is that we actually want to concentrate more on the mobile profile thing - jsut so bands can have a mobile myspace of sorts but who's design is optimized for smartphones.

concercning the audience watching the band instead of their phones, I agree. But the audience could take advantage of these profiles during the gig's downtimes. And if we spin it the right way, the idea would be to have a fast effective way for fans to get to know about that opening band that rocks but that we so often forget about and stuff

There ya go then. That sounds good with that explanation. Go forward with it. I mean what's the worst that could happen? People wont use it.. Or people could be very fond of it and use it all the time.

But yes, in the end I do agree with you, its all really a question of spinning it the right way.

Maybe it will work, maybe it wont

We are getting pretty mixed opinion on the idea.

    Hi Robin,

Mobile-optimised band sites for looking up info before/after & during the break - great idea.

    But...
