Any Frank Zapa Fans?

I remember as a youngin, tripping out to Joe's Garage...well here I am years (no literally YEARS) later and I'm re-discovering Zappa all over agin...I think he's borderline genius!

I love Zappa. Got lots of his stuff. You ought to read "The Real Frank Zappa Book" by Frank Zappa sometime.. very enjoyable read.

I have been a fan since the album "Freak Out" (1968?) If you can find it, "we're only in it for the money" is a good one. The cover is a take off on Sgt. Pepper. I saw a clip of Frank on the Steve Allen show, and Frank was playing a bicycle. Classic.

I saw that clip of Frank on the Tonight Show.. I think Frank was only about 18 at the time, maybe even younger. Leave it to him to play a bicycle!

I love the "Just Another Band From L.A." album, with Billy the Mountain, Call Any Vegetable, Eddie Are You Kidding, Magdalena, and I think one or two others.

But I've got probably 12 of his albums, and there's lots to like. I also own the "Baby Snakes" movie on DVD. Love that trippy claymation!

Yeah...The era with Flo and Eddie was great! Call Any Vegetable I saw Frank twice. Once at UCLA with Vai on guitar, once at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with George Duke on keyboards, Napolean Murphy Brock on vocals around the time Live at the Roxy and Elsewhere was recorded. I miss that guy.

Raz, you need to get some Zappa discs! If you just want the funny songs, you could try a compilation like "Have I Offended Someone?". But there's a lot more to Zappa than the potty humor.

I really like "Broadway the Hard Way" which has live songs from various albums, but most of them are of a political or pop-culture bent. On that disc, Frank takes a poke at everyone who takes themself too seriously.. Democrats, Republicans, Televangelists, Celebrities, Models, and Record Executives.

He gets my vote on the borderline genius. I got into him through my Vai fixation and I'm so glad I doscovered him.

Though I have to say I like the commercial weirdness best. People have learned never to mention Montana or Valley girls around me...

Got to agree Frank was a genius and for me he was the greatest composer of the 20th century. I had the pleasure of seeing him on his broadway the hardway tour in 1988.

I have many favourite albums so I can't really single one out. Every time I think yea Sheik Yerbouti another will pop in to my head and make me think again.
