    Steve F'n Via!

I'm seeing Steve Vai at the Fitzgerald in St. Paul MN in less than three weeks! I think I'll start foaming at the mouth in a few days with anticipation. Has/Is anyone else seen/seeing Vai on this tour. What did you think or expecting to think of this tour.

Man if I would have known I would have made a special trip to TO for that...900 seater, now that's nice and intimate.

the one thing that I came away from the concert that I was disappointed by was the lack of passion and warfare stuff. I really love that album and wanted more, maybe 2 songs maybe 3? Played maybe a couple from fire garden. But it was a real fking good show. Him and billy sheenan really do some good stuff with each other, and the other two guitarists with him are real good, as is the guy opening for him. At one point they were all out there playing together, trading licks etc ala crossroads. He still has the evo and another one cant recall the letters it had. also had a double neck with one of the guitars being a fretless one i think. played about 3-4 from the new album. The reaper, and they all had their own songs/solos. usually a pretty intimate setting as well i caught a drum stick, was real close to vai at times. During the encores that guitarist from his old g3 tour came out and they played my guitar wants to kill your mqam with eveyrone. I forgot his name cause i got in a car acciednt a few months ago and have forgotten a lot of things, but you probably know him. anything else? real ****ing kick ass show. vai is unreal as usual.

If the other guitar was a white Jem, it was probably FLO.

If it was the mirror finish one, I think that's called Bad Horsie.

yes it was FLO. and he did have bad horsie too....there were a lot of guitars used, and plenty off to the side of the stage etc. do you think its possible to play like him without having the longest fingers on earth like it seems he has?

I think you need the long fingers, and you have to be an extraterrestrial, like him.

Did you ever see his transcribing work? He single-handedly created musical notation for all that crazy polyrhythmic stuff that Zappa was so keen about.

    Saw Vai Saturday..WOW!

About three hours of guitar onslaught. Great players! (McAlpine...WOW!)
Also, an interesting acoustic set. And I met him after the show. Nice guy.
First time I saw him was in the early 80's with Zappa on "You ARe What YOu IS" tour. I had front row centres back then and was blown away then too.

Kind of off-topic but, I finished playing through Halo-2 (XBox game) the other night and noticed Steve Vai in the music credits... apparently he did all the cool guitar stuff heard through the game. I didn't know that, but it did sound pretty cool.
