ok I was listening to Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock...

This song was done 1954 and the guitar solo blows me away for it's time.
Danny Cedrone -the session player who does the electric guitar solo - was ahead of his time.

I wonder how influental he is/was. He doesn't get much credit anyhow.

Pretty simple and tame these days.
Sometimes the simple stuff can have so much groove.

    Anyone play/listen rockabilly ?

I don't really listen to it, rockabilly that is, but that is a pretty cool song guitar-wise for the time. I guess he's like the Steve Vai of 1954 to play like that then, and his action was probably an inch off the neck too

Yeah, I always was impressed by the solo as well. I think it holds up pretty well, even by todays standards. I never knew the name of the guy who played it though.

I listen to a lot of Rockabilly, Surf, and Spy guitar (among other things). There's alotta good ones out there playing that type of stuff. A nice change of pace from all those Shredders and Neo Classical Fusionites. Don't get me wrong, I listen to alot of that stuff too:

If you want great picking from that era, check out stuff by Jimmy Bryant. Clean, fast, articulate and musical country/rockabilly stuff - think pure tele action. Jimmy may have been the premier session guy of that time.

My first suggestion would be "Stratosphere Boogie" with Bryant and Speedy West on pedal steel. Speedy comes up with great sounds that guys pay big bucks for effects to try and duplicate now.

If you like rockabilly go to CDbaby and listen to Doc Rogers and the Roc Dodgers.
It's a West LA group playing rockabilly and C&W for the 2000's.

    Talking

Hi guys! This is my 1st post so thanks very much for making this forum so cool!
Dont actually own a MM YET!!! (Saw about 12 on the forum i Wanna buy) but will be purchasing very soon!

Now, back to the point, yup i listen and play a lot of rockabilly. I bought my 1st Gretsch about a month ago! Its a Setzer Hot Rod and man do they rock! For any guys who dismiss this music as basic /simple I think theyre missing the point. The fact that the backing chordal structure is generally so simple Really allows the guitar to stretch out and play some far out stuff!
My advice is if you think you're interested in it, get along to a live Rockabilly gig and i KNOW you'll come back a convert! :

See ya on the boards guys, keep bendin the bigsbys

Anything with P90's would be perfect for a Social Distortion type sound.
