That happened to my bass player this summer, but it was at a gig, not rehearsal! Just as we began our last song, his GK head cooked!

We had a guy playing keyboards a long time ago. He showed up at the space we practiced at early. He was dicking around and decided he'd plug his synth into the bass players rig. When we showed up he was taking the back of the bassists cab to see what was causing it to smoke. I think he fried one of the speakers or a horn, I can't remember which exactly. All I remember is walking in seeing him with the screwdriver, and smoke. Funny stuff, now... wasn't too funny then.

It's always funny until someone looses an eye... Or something like that. It's been so long since I've experienced equipment failures that it really threw me. Years ago I watched amps fry all the time, but it doesn't happen nearly as much these days.

I had a Marshall Dual Super Lead that was brand new out of the box fry....made some poppin' noises and that wonderful blue smoke appeared. Took it back and got another one......hehehehhe.........I guess they really can't go to 11!

i fried a brand new Mesa Boogie M-Pulse 600 about 30 minutes after buying it. total bummer ... i was pretty pissed.

the store i got it at exchanged the Mesa for a new SVT Classic so the worrying lasted all of 2 days.

That is horrendous! I hope I never have that experience, but especially at a gig or teaching. Man, it would just be awful to see my Mesa puffing smoke. It does encourage me to try out JJs in the amp so I can try to get a more convincing gain out of my Normal mode in my Nomad 45. I imagine running it in Extreme all the time wears it more than it needs to, but a low volume gain in Normal with the Sovteks sounds a bit thin. What's the status of your amp now, Pundix? I hope it isn't too hard to repair.

It isn't a good feeling rockdisciple. I just got the amp to the shop yesterday so I don't know the status so far. I lucked out, there are two authorized boogie repair shops here in town. The guy I gave my amp to looked like he just stepped out of the cover of a Lynard Skynard album so I'm probably in decent hands.

I Finally got my MK IV out of the shop. It took two weeks since they had to order a couple of parts. It seems one of the large capacitors developed a leak and bled into the power section. The shop completely recapped and retubed the amp and it sounds as good as new.
