Unhappy ZOOM MSR-1608 confusion! Please help!

    HI,
I've just bought the Zoom MSR 1608 and I'm currently overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options open to me (having been an analogue tape user for the last ten years!). I'm doing okay, but I've just spent over an hour trying to do a very simple act and not getting anywhere. I was hoping someone out there can just tell me how to do it in plain English (the manual's pretty good, I'm just stuck on this!).
All I want to know is how to bounce/combine several tracks into one. For example, if I have a rhythm guitar on Tr1 and then some overdubs on tr2, how do I put them both onto tr3, thus freeing up 1 and 2?
This is pretty basic I know, but I've been pulling my hair out over it! Can anyone help me?
    Thanks
    Mark

    Marco,

I've never used the Zoom unit that you're talking about. However, since no one else is replying I figured I'd jump in.

I have a Fostex VF-16 digital multitracker. To bounce tracks the way you're describing would involve using what Fostex terms 'bus' recording, which lets you select individual tracks for playback, record, or mute. Then you'd set your two source tracks for playback, the destination track for record, and then press 'record' and let the song play the whole way through. Afterwards, you'd manually delete the two source tracks.

Perhaps there's something analagous to this process with your Zoom? Thought I'd try, anyway... good luck with it!

There are a number of informative home recording forums out there, and a lot of people who own zooms. Here are a few I've found to be helpful:

    Hi,
Sorry, had a bit of password trouble! Thank you both for the advice. Someone told me today that I can't actually do what I was trying to do (I need to bounce all recorded tracks to the stereo tracks...or something...), I'll figure it out eventually. Right I'm off to check out those links!
    Thanks again

    marco..

it looks like your password trouble had something to do with your user name.

Your original post is from marco722

    Your folow-up is from marco72

Looks like you have 2 accounts with a slightly different numeric portion at the end.

Well spotted! I DO indeed have two accounts because I couldn't get the reset your password procedure to work, so I registered again to say thanks (hence the two usernames!).
I'm just having a bad week with the technology, I guess...

    MSR 16 Help

Hey guy...To bounce tracks on your Zoom machine, press bounce button, press input source button, turn dial to master,
enable and mix tracks to bounce, arm destination track(s), press record and play together. Done! Hope this helped.

    New ZOOM 1608 User

I, too, am lost with the ZOOM 1608. I am probably going to come off as an idiot, but does anyone know how to record the drum tracks? I can get them to play, but not record. I am following the directions but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyone out there have the 1608 who can help me with this problem? Thanks!
