I just purchased the new Eric Johnson disc "Bloom" and gave it my first listen.
My initial impression is very good. Money well spent.![]()
Interestingly, it's on Vai's Favored Nations label, which is cool.

Interestingly he let other people mix this album, which means the album didn't take a decade to finish.
He also has an acoustic album in the works. An amazing talent hindered only by his striving for perfection.

I don't want to write a track-by-track review here. Suffice it to say that I have been listening to the new EJ disc "Bloom" for a few days now, and it is just great. Sure, there's a lot of familiar material in there, but he also goes off in some new directions. It's a fine, fine disc to add to anyone's collection.
Now if we could just get him to switch to Music Man guitars...

Yeah....I'd love to hear him with an AL or Silo. That would be awesome.![]()
"Welcome to the addiction!" is now patented by Koogie2k......if used by anyone other than Koogie2k....you must mail him a US nickel for each time said/typed or signed.......
A WISE AND RESPECTED MAN TOLD ME:
"Do something nice for someone everyday. Don't let your head hit the pillow until you do something nice for someone each day." I hope I don't let him down.
I saw Eric Johnson just last week. On a whim I checked out his website and it turned out he was playing in Boulder (about 50 miles from me) in a few days' time. I've seen him once before, about 2 years ago. This was the same lineup that I saw previously: Chris Maresh on bass and Tommy Taylor on drums. They did a really good show, and I remember liking the new tunes that I heard. I remember thinking that they didn't seem to have as much energy, and his tone wasn't quite as huge (it was still unmistakable, of course) as the first show I saw, but they were really very good. I'm glad to hear you like the new album, I think I'll get it soon.
i picked it up a few days ago......put it in my truck & have listened to it mabey 3 times.......i am finding some of it boring.........which i can't believe i'm saying.....cause i love e.j. some killer moments.......... mabey it's still gotta grow on me some more....
more later......

There is so much to take in on this record. I have been listening to it with headphones on. For me tracks 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 12 and 15 are the standout ones.

I hope you'll give it a little time to shake out.

some tunes are too pop jazzy for me though. (but that's just me).
usually....after a whole night of giging...the drive home is music-less ......
to let the ringing in my head calm....& let my mind relax.......but even at that senstive time i been listening (low volume mind ya) to it on the drives home.
