I like Stomp by Brother's Johnson featuring Louis "Thunder Thumb" Johnson. Lowrider by War is a classic. Sly and the Family Stone featuring Larry Graham on Sing a Simple Song is BADASS! I could go on for days with great bass parts to songs like these! I still have my Afro from 1974.

I'd definitely say Jamiroquai and Parliament is some of the funkiest stuff ever and the Headhunters version of Herbie Hancock's Watermelon man has a pretty good groove going so i'm gonna have to transcribe that soon. A lot soul, hip hop,Rnb stuff also has a fair amount of funky grooving bass stuff like Beyonce's Deja Vu, Work it out or Love on top.

On another note, if anyone knows how to get a bass synth sound like on Love on Top or like on Chaka Khan songs then please let me know cus I absolutely love that sound and am willing to spend money on a pedal for it. Hopefully I won't get loads of messages back telling me to buy a Moog :P

I'd buy a microKorg keyboard to play synth bass before I'd by a moog. that's just me.

Tower of Power's "What is Hip?" would be my vote too...ONLY because it made such a HUGE impact in my life as a bass player. Other influential favorite lines for me are (and I know some of y'all won't consider these funk) Every Little Thing She Does is Magic by the Police and Aeroplane by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Very rarely do I get sucked in by a Bass line and these aren't funk, but two of my all time favorites are Longview by Greenday and the Bass in the beginning of Sweet Child of Mine.
