Since funk is my first love, it is hard to pick just one line. I always loved the powerful simplicity of AWB's "Schoolboy Crush" and I love the hyper slapping of "Glide" by Pleasure (a Stingray tune). A really great bass part that shows off finger and slap style is "Stomp" by the Brothers Johnson. Finally, I'm completely in awe of the things that Anthony Jackson played on Chaka Khan's first three solo albums. That's what really made me want a five string bass.

I like much of what I've heard. I'm not sure if Jamiroquai is really considered Funk, but Stuart Zender was BAD...

My favorite is probably Tower of Power's "What is Hip?". Rocco Prestia's basslines are just pure funk.
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

Out of curiosity, what funk players play Music Man basses? I can think of one off the top of my head, and that's Andrew Levy of Brand New Heavies.

Edit: However, after looking at their website, it appears he's playing Warwick and Fender basses too. I didn't see a pic of him with a Music Man...

I know he's a slap/pop guy (he started it, right?), but I have to mention Larry Graham. Especially during his Sly and the Family Stone days. Now dat's funk.

Okay, I'd never heard of the Tower of Power. Just went to Itunes and now "What is Hip" is on the Pod!

Brickhouse has always been the bass line that gets my hiney out of the chair.
