    Hi everyone!!!
    Yesterday, I buyed a NOS Music Man SUB1 Guitar.It needs a Setup.
I send an email to John Quinn from Ernie Ball.

    The Correct Way

    1) First use the trussrod wheel to adjust relief and set your neck perfectly straight

    2) Then adjust the saddle height to adjust string height relative to one another as desired

The approximate factory settings are 1/16" or 1.5875mm from the bottom of the string to the top of the 12th fret. You can adjust the action lower or higher to fit your playing style,by adjusting the trussrod wheel.

    3) Then use the truss rod wheel to adjust the final action as desired.

    - Check the relief in the neck by holding the lowest string down on the second fret with your fretting hand; then hold it down on the 12th fret with your right thumb and tap on the string on the middle of these two points to show how straight the neck is. It should be no more than the thickness of a thick business card.

Good information for all our Balls.

The information you posted is correct, and very good, but I feel may be a little incomplete.

The first thing you would want to do is change your strings with a new set, and make sure that they are stretched out and in tune. This won't be important until a little later.

Next, you want to adjust your spring tension on your trem (if your guitar has a trem) to accomodate your preferred string gauge and tuning. When you have a stable trem, continue on to make the adjustments that were outlined in the previous post. (I always check the clearance of the string at the 8th fret)

    continued....

After you have completed the action and neck relief adjustments, you will want to adjust your intonation. Make sure that your guitar is in tune. With a good quality tuner, play each string open, and at the twelfth fret. If the note at the twelfth fret is sharp, increase the vibrating legnth of the string by turing the bridge saddle screw located at the back of the bridge. If the note at the twelfth fret is flat, decrease the vibrating legnth of the string. When the note at the twelfth fret is in tune with the open string, move onto the next string. When all strings are done, you're finished.

The reason you changed the strings at the beginning was to accomplish this. You should always adjust your intonation on a new set of strings. As long as you use the same gauge and brand of string, you shouldn't have to adjust the intonation much after that, unless you make changes to the setup of the guitar.
