  1. Fine for me, but we still really haven't had a chance to rehearse it with the band yet. We need to try to get together more. We are trying to get up to 30 songs so we can do a full gig at a bar. But our day jobs keep getting in the way...oh well, gotta still remember what brings home the bacon.
  2. Peter,

Just curious...how did the notes I suggested for the " dual harmony-lead section" in "More Than A Feeling" work out?

    Nick
  3. I accidentally left a note out of my "transcription."

Don't "hang" onto the notes in (italics) they are more of a "run." They go by rather quickly, making them somewhat "indistinct" on the original recording and they are played with a slightly unusual timing which makes this the most difficult part of this section to play.

    D, G, (F#, E, A,) D, G, E, A, D, G, B, B, D, B, E, A, G

That first "A" was what I left out, sorry.
  4. Thanks SOMB. I can work with that!
  5. More Than A Feeling (dual harmony lead section)

I'm self-taught, I learn by listening to the recordings. My band plays cover songs remarkably close to the original versions. I duplicate what I hear on the original version and it works with the parts the other guys worked up. This only works if every member works their parts up correctly; listen closely to the original version.
If you are talking about the "harmony lead" section, those bass notes/phrasing behind the dual lead guitars are "crucial."
Play with the recording, duplicating what you hear then play the same thing with the band. Does it still work? If not, you may have to play it differently.
Being self-taught, I don't feel qualified to answer these types of questions adequately.

Simplified (without the runs/climbs between the notes) I play:

    D, G, F#, E, D, G, E, A, D, G, B, B, D, B, E, A, G

Remember to use the proper octave(s) of each note!
  6. First off, congratulations on the Bongo's arrival.

My thread entitled: "Big Al 5 single H first impressions" explains a little about the differences between all of my single H models (Sterling 5, Bongo 5 and Big Al 5.) Their differences are subtle nuances which must be played to be fully appreciated. They all get the "MusicMan" sound.

My Bongo 5 HH is mentioned as well.

On page two of this thread I posted my observations after having tried The Big Al 5 single H at a gig.

    Nick
  7. Well, I am trying not to think about the Big Al. As an amateur bass player, there is not need for me to have yet another bass.

How does the single H Big A compare to a single H Sterling? I have a feeling I would likely dial in the same tone I get from the Sterling.
  8. Peter,

I'm glad you're getting it next week. As you can imagine, I was going nuts (more than normal) waiting for my Big Al 5 single H.

    Nick

P.S. Speaking of my Big Al 5 single H; what do you think of it? Did you see the pics that The Perfect Bass sent me of it?
  9. Hey Nick,

That is a good question. I called the store yesterday and they said it should be here in the middle of next week. Its been a long wait, 4 months!

    Peter
  10. I sent you a friend's request.

    Hey, where's the new Bongo?

    Nick
