How much more pickguard could it have?

    None. It could have none-more-pickguard.

Wasn't this on eBay not that long ago? Private seller, as I recall? No documentation to prove it belonged to the Foghat guy - and really, so effin what if it did?

Besides the bound neck, what is there to recommend the poor thing?

In the south, when a dog would come home looking like that, we'd take it out in the woods and shoot it. It's the humane thing to do.

It's definitely a weird 'lil monster...I'm still wondering if this 'lil monster is responsible for that bad ass slow ride bass line.

    and which one?

I wonder which one of Foghat's bass players it was?

My wife lived in Orlando for a year or so back around 1989. Some guys from Molly Hatchet lived next door to her. One dude was really nice to her, his name was "Riff". I don't recall if he played bass or guitar.

Anyway, fast forward a few years later, around 1992, Molly Hatchet comes to town with Foghat and some other band. We go to see them, as my wife hopes to spot Riff and say 'hi'. Molly Hatchet goes on.. no Riff. Later, Foghat comes on and there's Riff playing for them! My wife gets his attention and he remembers her.

After the show he came out and talked to us for a long time. He 'switched' bands. I don't know how permament that was, but it struck me as funny. Nice guy, anyway. Maybe this was Riff's bass? Now I'll have to ask my wife if she remembers what he played...

+1. Believe it or not, my band is supposed to open for Foghat in a few weeks. And yeah, their bassist is from Molly Hatchett. Maybe I can ask him...

Neck was also narrowed to an A size (Jazzbass) at the nut end.
You can see the angle where strings break at the nut towards the tuners.

Well, if you happen to meet Riff, tell him "hello" from Angela who used to live next door to him in Orlando!
