    Talking Pics From "Foghat" Gig

Here we are, in all our glory!

A great time was had by all. The crowd was very receptive and we got spirited applause after every tune. Apparently, we must have sounded good enough, because we've been asked to come back tomorrow, sans Foghat.

This was also the "Big Test" for my SVT4 Pro - Eden 410 rig, and I must say I am very, very happy Clear and deep and filled up the stage...outdoors!

The "big guys" (bless 'em all, they were cool!) had quite the backline... During "sound check", prior to us going on, their roadie broke out a nice black F@nder J-bass. They had two Hartke 5000 heads (I think they were 5000s, although they looked pretty old and unlike anything I think Hartke is offering now). Each one was powering a newer Ampeg 810 cab. "This is going to sound sweet", I am thinking. I mean, after all, these dudes are pros, right?

And then out comes one of the most gawd-awful fart-tuba sounds I've ever heard

It gets even better: Roadie nods his head approvingly and puts the bass back on the stand! He's done!

Sure enough, when we are loading out, I hear it again...the same nasty, "somebody-sliced-my-speakers-with-a-knife" honking, and I realize: "This guy is either deaf or a real lazy mo'fo, because he is just going to leave it like that!

Now, to be honest, I did not stick around to hear Foghat's bassist play it (Kids and Mommy were ready to go, and so was I!), but I can only imagine it still sounded like hot garbage

(No disrespect, of course! It could have sounded great!)

So, in comparison, I am thinking: "4 Pro and Eden 410 GOOD!" (My 5 year old said the ground was shaking )

    Enjoy the pics...Goodnight everbody!

    Bye, everybody!

Enjoyed the pics! You really are Dr. Nick aren't you. Glad the gig turned out to be such a good experience.
Starting to think about returning to bass playing in the very near future.

Looks like it was a great gig, at least from this shot!

BTW, those are GK heads...probably 400RB's...running through the 8x10's.

I think you're right...they just look a little short for the 800 from this shot.

They do appear to be 800RB'S and I have no idea why they wouldn't sound great through an Ampeg 8-10?I have a friend who play's an EBMM Stingray 4 through a 800RB/Ampeg 8-10 rig and it sounds amazing. Must have been the Jazz bass

Great pics! With the Foghat backdrop, perhaps you could pass off one of the pics as "the time I filled in for Foghat when their bass player was sick"

Okay, here is the explanation: I spoke to my keyboard player today. He stayed Saturday and actually listened to Foghat's whole set. He said the bass sounded great: deep, punchy and clean. I asked him if it was the actual bassist from Foghat that we had heard earlier at the sound check, and he said "Hell no! This was a skinny, older guy, and he was rippin' it up!"

The only thing I can think is that Mr. Roadie's job was just to fire up the amps, plug in the bass and make sure some noise came out, because I too, had a hard time figuring out how such a rig could sound so poor! Perhaps every single knob got spun to "11" during transport!

In any event, all reports I received indicate that Foghat put on a great show, (which makes me happy for the owners of the dealership, 'cause they've treated us very well!).

So now I can say that I've opened up for Survivor and Foghat! I am such a rock star
