ruso, very cool, glad that worked out for you! The build date of this baby is 1/25/08 - so it barely cleared the doorway of BC before they shipped it to you. How's that for cool!

Welcome to the Forum JK.
Your Bass is a Pre-Ernie Ball Sting Ray and appears to have been made in 1978. Factory records don't exist for the Pre-EB instruments. However, dates are recorded on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body but the neck has to be removed to view them. If you wish to confirm those dates but feel comfortable in doing so, a luthier should be able to do it for you at a nominal fee.

Thanks Dan. You guys kick ass. I love my beater. As soon as I can afford it, I'm going to buy a new Sterling HS to make my beater jealous...
BTW, what's 'natural velvet' exactly? Is it just EB's name for natural finish?
Peace!
** I just realized, yesterday was my Sterling's 12th birthday!!! I will go give it a spanking now to celebrate...

It was a non-glossy matte finish we used, and pretty much just offered on the Sterling. We kind of discovered it by accident and decided it looked pretty cool, so we offered it. All of the naturals we do now have a glossy finish.
Nice!
