Unfortunately, we have no records going back that far - whether your bass is a pre-Ernie Ball or is one of the earliest made by Ernie Ball Music Man, for those serial number records do not exist. Rod Trussbroken has an awesome website with a wealth of information on Music Man basses which may be helpful (This site not monitored by EBMM or its employees) : Home - Musicmanbass.org, Music Man, Musicman, Music Man Bass, Musicman Bass, Music Man Guitar

I also expect Rod T (aka Gav) to weigh in here any moment.

Russel, your new StingRay 5 was built on 01/13/09 and was shipped to the House of Guitars in San Antonio, TX. Nice! Congratulations on your new bass.

Rob, are those string mutes I see on your bass? We stopped using those in late 1994.

Sure, your StingRay 5 in Sunburst with a rosewood board was built on 2/16/95 and originally was shipped to GC in Berkeley/ElCerrito, CA.

[QUOTE=Croox;578031]I was told a while ago my SN wasnt coming up. I took some pictures earlier today.
    /QUOTE]

Croox, I did some further research and was still unable to come up with anything. It's as if that serial number was never recorded. (Come to think of it, that's exactly what it is ) The closest guess I come up with based on the numbers around it is that it probably was built around July 2003., which is about two months after these basses started being shipped to stores.

The other possibility is that the neck may have been swapped, but it would have had to have been at the factory and then it somehow wasn't recorded (if it were simply swapped in the field it would come up, but as something else). Or it may some sort of demo or prototype, even though usually those are recorded as well - this is probably one of those where there is no way to know for sure. Sorry!

    Hey Dan,

My thoughts exactly when I saw the bass. Who knows? Maybe the store told the guy it was new, maybe he lied to me, maybe he bought it in '95 and has amnesia. I don't really care because it looks brand new now and plays like butter and I got a great deal on it. The only problem with it is that I'm getting blisters from playing it so much!

    Cheers!
    Rob

    Gold Sparkle?

    Hello all,

I've got a Stingray 5 that I purchased in '06. From the serial number it seems to be an '04? Also, can anyone tell me the exact name of the color? I would assume it's something like "Gold Sparkle".

    EBMM Stingray 5 - E39412

    Thanks all,

    Phil

Anyway, it plays beautifully and I was curious if you could tell me when she was brought into the world.

    The serial number is B007441.

Thanks for your help and God Bless!
    Welcome to the Forum.

No official records exist but the serial indicates 1978. Dates are recorded on the neck heel and neck pocket should you want to go to the extent of removing the neck.

Black with Maple is a great combo

Well mine is a Ray, so I would love to know about the rays. If you don't have anything regarding the numbers I don't really mind, it is just nice to know. Especially as it only lasted a year!

    Thanks Dan

    Hey Guys,

I just joined this forum about 2 minutes ago to ask 1 question: What is the range of value for a pre Ernie Ball Stingray bass? I have a 76/77 somewhere there. Anyone? I'd like to know.

    Serial no. B0003204
