Will, welcome to the Forum! Your bass has a build date of May 20 2004 -- it was originally shipped to Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center in Wheaton, Maryland. It originally had a black scratchplate.

    The serial number is 29361.

Colour, pickguard, fretboard, build date and where it was shipped to would be great!

    Thanks!
liverbird, nice acquisition! This 2-EQ StingRay features the original Blueburst finish (a la Morse). It has a poplar body, solid maple neck, shipped to our U.K. distributor, Strings & Things Ltd.

André, 11/25/03 was the big day ... but our records show that as a textured Graphite (like a charcoal gray color) .. how black is your black?

It was shipped to Musik Meyer, our German distributor.

    Hi Dan

Thanks for the info. I have a bit of a mystery here though...

The bass is indeed a Blueburst that I bought second-hand here in the UK.

But the fretboard is Rosewood, not Maple.

There's some blue paint rubbed off on the heel the neck so it would appear that it's been on that body for at least some time. The stamped date in the neck pocket is Sep 26 1989. The heel has a stamped date of Oct 16 1989 and there's also a handwritten mark saying RD.10.25.89.

What do you think - maybe a neck that was swapped out at the time? Or possibly a reboarding? Or a database mix-up?

Do you have a completion date? Any info on the pickguard?

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks, Oliver

Sorry, Oliver - forgot the most important part! It was built on November 3 1989. Switching necks was semi-common in those early days for distributors to do because it took so long for orders to be built. The pickguard would have originally been white.

Just got another Black Beauty SR5 serial number 50867 and was wondering when it left the factory and what the body wood is? Has a nice birds eye maple neck with rosewood board. Thanks!

Hornet, your black StingRay 5 was completed on 6/21/89. The body is made of poplar.

    Nice!

    Dan
Thanks for the info Dan! Any idea where it was originally shipped?
